Snoopy Rock (Bahia Gonzaga) - Baja California - Mexico

Snoopy Rock is a large offlying rock about midway up the beach in Gonzaga bay. It's called snoopy rock because if you imagine it hard enough it apparently looks like snoopy laying on top of his dog house. What can I say, it was named by a guy visiting baja presumably in the late sixties. Woaa Man!

Regardless if you can spot the doggy or not, it's a prominent landmark in the bay. At high water springs the isthmus between snoopy and the main bay is mostly covered, don't be tempted to try and sail over it though.

We didn't want to risk getting too close to the rock when we arrived at night on a dropping tide, so we anchored a fair distance out in about 20ft mlws which meant we didn't get much protection from any prevailing swell, however it was calm weather and we had a good night sleep, before moving to a more sheltered spot.

Bahia Gonzago is a really beautiful area, and we enjoyed kayaking around, as well as a few trips ashore for a walk. There is a friendly community of mostly gringos with vacation homes on the beach.

We anchored in 25ft on the north side over sand with good holding. In theory it is possible to tuck closer into the bay, however we arrived in the dark, on an ebb tide and just wanted an easy spot to anchor.
