About this Anchorage
Santa Domingo is a great anchorage just tucked into Bahia Conception. It offers excellent protection from almost all prevailing weather conditions, although strong swell will wrap around from the north or south, although there are better anchorages nearby for almost all weather conditions you might want to use instead if there's a blow on.
We use this anchorage for both crossing to the mainland, and also to stage for Mulege if we're heading in early in the morning.
This is a popular spot for crossing to the mainland, as its about 75 miles to San Carlos. Ashore there's a long sandy beach, which has a bunch of shells ashore.
Anchoring Notes
Anchor in 12-25ft of water, as you approach it will drop from deep water into 30ft and then shoal very gradually, so you can get quite close to the beach. There's a light at the north end.
Depending on the weather you may want to favor either the north or south side, but it doesn't make a huge difference in all honesty.
