San Evaristo - BCS, Mexico

San Evaristo is a nice stop on the way up the San Jose Channel, its a well protected bay with a small village including a tienda, restaurant and desalination plant which can sell you purified water if needed.

We've only stopped here a few times because we generally enjoy being out in the islands, but its well worth coming here even if just for lunch at the restaurant. It can get pretty busy here if the weather is miserable, and at peak times just from the number of boats transiting between Loreto and La Paz cruising grounds.

In most weather you can just drop the hook in 20ft inside the main bay, watch out for the reef which extends from the south side. It get shallow in the middle near the shore, but its generally a pretty easy anchorage, be careful of mooring balls and other floats in the bay.

You can also anchor in the north inside an obvious lobe which will give better protection from northerlies, and in southerly or calm conditions the north side next to the salt ponds is also good.
