Punta Tijereta - Baja California, Mexico

Tijereta cove is the southern most cove in a forked bay (hence the name Tijereta) in the south east end of Gonzaga bay. This is one of my favorite anchorages to date, as it has a lovely secluded feeling, excellent snorkeling and kayaking around the bay and wider area, and a beautiful location.

There are a number of small beaches in the fjord which really open up at low water, and good snorkeling and fishing along the rocky sides of the fjord. We saw panga tours coming in most days to explore the beaches and do a bit of fishing.

Kayaking around the point towards Punta Final and along the shore towards Snoopy Rock make for a good afternoon kayak, although the sun can be brutal, as can the northerly chop.

The anchorage is in the south cove, about level with the beach. The cove looks narrower than it is, it's actually about 400ft wide, and is pretty deep right up to the rocks at low tide at least.

We anchored in 25ft about level with the middle of the beach over sand. The afternoon thermals tended to be from the east blowing us 'out' of the bay, and at night this typically reversed although we didn't have any bad weather when there.

Charlies charts mention the bottom being sand over cobble, and Pat Rains couldn't find an anchorage at all, so it's possible this bay is susceptible to significant change after a storm.

The bay appeared to shoal very gradually towards the end, so there is no reason I could see that you couldn't tuck in further up if you want to feel you are in a fjord.
