Punta Arena (East Cape) - BCS, Mexico

Punta Arenas is a small sand spit which sticks out from the east cape just north of Cabu Pulmo national park. It's not a great anchorage, but it does have cell service, a nice beach, and a couple of tiendas within walking distance

I've used this anchorage in calm weather a few times, its a good option if you want to have cell service and still be close to cabo pulmo, but the swell will wrap around no matter which side you are on as there isn't enough of a stick out to break the swell.

That said, in smooth conditions it's actually pretty nice, the beach is white sand. On the north side, there are condos with beach access, but you can still walk along the beach just fine, on the south side, there's less. During the day the beach can be pretty busy with locals and westerners out sunbathing.

There is a small store or two a mile or so from the beach, but I didn't venture that far.

On the north side, head inland half a mile or so, and anchor about 100M from the beach in 20ft. It shoals gradually, but there are some shallow patches. We find it gets deeper again before it gets shallower nearer the shore, typically around 15-30ft depths from about half a mile out.

On the south side you are anchoring on a shelf, we anchor in 15-25ft just off the beach.

Watch out for strong currents near the point itself which can create rips.
