The quaint little town of Mulege is a charming destination, unfortunately the anchorage is an open roadstead, so you need to time your visit here with some good weather, or alternatively anchor in one of the other nearby anchorages on the transpeninsular and hitch into town.

Ashore there is a former prison, which is unique in that the inmates were allowed out to work during the day, but must report back to jail for the evening. Now it serves as a museum for the town, as well as hosting some rocket parts which fell to earth nearby.

On the south bank of the river is a manicured oasis like waterworks with a weir which form part of the jesuit mission and grounds that formed part of the early settlements here.
There are also a number of small but useful grocery stores here, so you can do some reasonable provisioning, however access to the town either involves a long awkward dinghy ride, or a long walk along the river.
Anchoring Notes
We anchor off the beach north of the river, in about 20ft. Holding is good here, but its wide open to both the prevailing northerly swell in winter time, and regardless of which way the swell is running it tends to be really rolly, so we tend to just drop the hook, go ashore, and get straight out when we return.
There are a couple of other spots to drop the hook to the south of the river. The river itself is shoal, but you can take dinghy all the way up to the main highway and tie up along the side if you have some patience to find the right route up.
