Great spot for whale watching, and provides a nice view of the sierra giganta too. Wind tends to be fickle here and becomes an on-shore breeze at night which can be pretty miserable if it whips up the swell, but most of the time its a nice respite from the prevailing northerlies.
The cardon cactus forest ashore is a nice backdrop, and you can walk along the shore, and explore the lagoon too.
We mostly stay here to watch the whales transiting the San Jose channel at the start of the year. You can hear them spouting all through the night, and if you just drift around in the channel you'll often see them close up.
Anchoring Notes
In the prevailing northerlies tuck in close to shore in about 20 ft, it shoals rapidly so you'll be only 50M from the shore. In southerly weather, the south anchorage offers some protection from the swell, but neither spots are particularly good.
Watch out for southerly winds springing up in the evening, which can make for at best a bumpy night, and at worst a dangerous lee shore. They usually die down after a few hours however.
If you need to bug out from southerlies, Nopolo or Bahia Rincon can be good alternates.
