About this Anchorage

Another beautiful but remote anchorage is Salsipuedes, this offers pretty decent protection from both north and south winds, but care must be taken to avoid a number of rocks. The slot anchorage is narrow, and you may wish to put out a stern anchor if you want to get close in to maximize protection.

Ashore you'll have plenty of company from the local sea lion population, as well as the various sea birds which visit the island.

The shore being rocky makes for good snorkeling, and you can have a great day out exploring in the dinghy or kayak between here and Animas.

Anchoring Notes

Anchoring here can be a bit tricky, so check all the charts and cruising guides. The easiest anchorage in northerly weather is the western anchorage, but be aware of the rock you must avoid. Unfortunately it also has the worst protection.

Better protection can be found in the slot, but this is quite narrow and you may want a stern anchor.

For southerly conditions the slot to the north offers excellent protection, but again may require a stern anchor.

Be aware of the reef systems around this island before arriving.
