Isla La Ventana (Bay of LA) - Baja California, Mexico

The main anchorage on Isla La Ventana is a mid-sized bay on the north west side, well protected from north, east, and westerly winds, but mostly open to the west. Ashore there's a pretty pebble beach, a nice hiking trail which goes to the southern shore, with easy scrambles up the surrounding peaks.

Sunset from the northerly peak is pretty good, you'll get a nice view over isla Pata and north towards Isla Smith (Coronado)

There is one trail heading up the hill from the anchorage, it continues down to the southern anchorage, with a few lesser defined side trails going to various peaks. You can do a nice loop by going around the southern rim, and then dropping down back to the trail from the north point.

Back in the water, there is good snorkeling around the side of the bay, on the reef jutting out on the northern shore, as well as around the nearby rocks and islands.

A kayak trip around the island is a nice activity in calm weather, there's a rock arch on the southern shore which is worth checking out.

Anchor off the pebble beach in 25-30ft over sand and gravel with good holding. Watch out for the reef on the north shore when entering the bay as it extends out significantly from the water line.

Check your charts carefully in the area as there are a number of reefs and rocks in the vicinity.

The southern anchorage is less protected, and according to the Shawn and Heather guide is mostly used for a lunch stop or to visit the surrounding reefs for snorkeling and diving.
