About this Anchorage

Los Muertos is a must stop location on the east cape. It's a good jumping off point to or from the mainland or when heading between cabo and la paz. It's well sheltered from the prevailing northerlies, but wide open from the south.

Don't expect to get data from the anchorage, the cell tower is on the northern side, and you can just pick it up if you walk a hundred meters or so north of the beach. You can also pick up the occasional bar from los barriles, but its intermittent and i haven't ever managed to get data from the boat.

That said, the restaurant has wifi and have kindly put a massive antennae which reaches out over the bay, so if you go get some lunch, they will give you an access code. It works only for a couple of hours a time, my solution was to change the MAC address on my router which would solve that problem, but its not ideal.

It is often not working too, so you can't quite depend on it. If you need cell service in a hurry you can also move over to the north side of the point, or further down to los barriles.

The bay itself has a lot to offer, good snorkelling on the south side amongst the rocks, or to the north just outside the anchorage in the rocks and reef which extend out from shore.

Fisherman launch from here and you can get a pretty sweet deal on fresh caught fish if you show up when they get back

Anchoring Notes

We usually anchor close to shore in 15-20ft near to the restaurant. Watch out for mooring balls. If you don't want to be woken up by fisherman in the morning a little further out works well too. Watch out for the reef that extends from the north side of the entrance.

You can also anchor anywhere along the beach, there is a rocky reef to the south that extends from roughly where the hotel is, these are marked on the various charts available, just use common sense and judgement.
