About this Anchorage

The Partida anchorage is the most secure anchorage you'll find in Isla Espíritu Santo and is a popular anchorage for both sail boats and larger motor boats looking for an easy night. It is well protected on almost all sides, especially if you snug up in the north of the bay, and there are great options for snorkelling, kayaking, and exploring around the area.

There are a number of hikes up the arroyos, both on Partida and Isla Espíritu Santo, the former is quite a rough trail with a nice view back to the anchorage, but not much of a view at the top, and the latter is similar but with better view onto Isla Espíritu Santo.

You can explore by dinghy through the sand spit (this is well marked, but shallow, and can have quite a strong tide running through it) to the east side of the island, and in calm weather this would make a nice kayak trip around Partida itself.

The beach near the spit is white/yellow sand, and there are a number of pangas and fisherman huts which will sell you their catch.

In practical terms Isla Partida is a pretty sweet anchorage, although it is typically not our favorite in the area, whilst it offers great protection, this comes at a cost in terms of vistas, and we generally just find it a bit too dark due to the surrounding cliffs. That said in any kind of weather, this is one of the few places you want to be in the area.

We've been here when its blowing 28 from the south, and its been just a gentle breeze, and in over 30 from the north and been more or less oblivious to it until we stuck our noses out.

Anchoring Notes

In northerly or westerly weather we anchor in the north lobe of the bay, this gives the best overall protection, but be warned it shoals far out and very quickly. We typically anchor in 20-25ft near the west wall.

In calm weather we anchor by the spit which gives the most breeze through the bay, and closer to the south wall in southerly or easterly blows.
