4G dataStarlinkAbout this Anchorage
Chacala is a large bay with good northerly protection, although it is unprotected from the south, and well tends to wrap around from the north, so a stern anchor is almost always a must.
The town itself is fun, with a mix of domestic tourism and local industry in the local jack-fruit farms.
There's an enjoyable walk to the local volcano crater which yields a good view out over the bay.
Anchoring Notes
Anchoring is straight forward, keep a bit of distance off the northern shore when coming from the north to avoid rocks. There's a safe water buoy which is lit, and is a good reference on approach. We anchored in 20ft near the beach across from the pangas. We set a stern anchor facing into the swell, which was a bit hit and miss during the night.
