Bahia Los Angeles - BC, Mexico

Bahia Los Angeles, or Bay of LA as it is known in gringo-speak, and the surrounding area is probably the most under rated destination in the Sea of Cortez. Surprisingly few boats venture this far north into the sea which adds to the feeling of remoteness.

The town itself is pretty small, but has everything you need for provisioning if you have a decent stock of dry staples aboard. You'll find bread, tortillas, meat, dairy and produce at the local market, although perhaps not exactly what you want each time.

There is no cell service here, or anywhere between Santa Rosalia and San Felipe, but you can by satellite wifi from the store, or have a drink/meal at the restaurants/bars and use theirs.

The anchorage off the town is the main anchorage, although there are a bunch of good options in the wider bay too. We've had whale sharks swimming around our boat here, and its convenience for the town can make it a hard place to leave.

If you need fuel, you can almost always get gasoline from one of the two Pemex stations in the town, however the one time we needed diesel they were sold out, they expected a new delivery in a day or so, so its probably fine if you are not in too much of a hurry.

Anchor just about anywhere you like off the town in 15-20ft over sand. Watch out for floats and random moorings as well as unlit boats.

If you don't need access to the town, there's a bunch of great anchorages in and around the wider bay, although some of them can be off limits due to whale shark activity, but this is usually clearly marked by floats in the water.
