Bahia la Salina (Isla Carmen) - BCS, Mexico

Bahia Salinas is a beautiful bay on Isla Carmen overlooking a ranch, with a wreck you can dive or snorkel, plenty of hiking on shore, and good protection from any northerly or westerly weather.

We love Salinas, and almost never pass an opportunity to come in here. The wreck of the Guaymas supply boat in the center of the bay is an excellent snorkel spot, and if you have your dive gear would make for an excellent dive too.

Ashore you can visit the salt ponds, which makes for a nice walk, but be sure to ask permission from the ranch caretaker before hand.

The beach makes for a nice picnic spot, and is a nice walk in itself.

In northerly weather you get excellent protection from the swell, however there is little wind abatement. From the south the swell rolls right in, but you can get some protection from the southeast, and it is generally diminished more than one would expect. If its too rolly here, around the corner in painted cliffs is usually a good option.

We anchor in 15ft usually on the northwest side to give the ranch a bit more space, but you can anchor pretty much anywhere in the bay that suits. If the wind is from the south we tend to go along the east shore.

Regardless of where you anchor be aware of the wreck in the middle of the bay, it usually has some kind of float or mark on it, at low water the tip of the wreck is just below sea level.

Holding is excellent.
